EYFS Curriculum
First Steps Pre-School follows the national Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum, a framework set out by the Department of Education, recognising the overall nature of development and learning at this age.

Our curriculum includes:
Prime Areas
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development: The skills to work collaboratively, build positive relationships, cooperate with others, participate confidently within a group, develop self-awareness, resilience, and respect for those around them.
- Communication and Language: The foundation for effective listening, sustained attention, understanding, and expressive speech. Children are supported to develop strong communication skills
- Physical Development: Enhance their physical control, coordination, and mobility through a wide range of activities, both indoors and outdoors. Opportunities to develop fine and gross motor skills, as well as confidence in movement and physical exploration.
Specific Areas
- Literacy: Early reading and writing skills, linking sounds to letters, building a secure understanding of phonics, developing a love of books, storytelling, and mark-making.
- Mathematics: Number recognition, counting, shapes, space, and measurement, as well as problem-solving skills.
- Understanding the World: Explore and make sense of their environment, learning about people, communities, and the wider world, whilst fostering curiosity and an appreciation of how the world works.
- Expressive Arts and Design: Use their imagination and creativity to express ideas, thoughts, and feelings through a range of artistic and creative mediums. Opportunities in art, music, movement, role play, and design.
